The Rhine-Maas delta of southern Holland has been occupied since at least the Mesolithic, preserving even the most fragile of archaeological remains. However, this wetland environment is now in danger, principally because of the demands for new land for building. This book, the result of the Voorne-Putten Project, presents eleven detailed and technical papers which survey the area and evaluate its archaeological and environmental potential, the extent and nature of the threat to its survival, and the archaeological response. In particular, contributors examine the threat to botanical remains, bone material, occupation deposits and site formation processes. English language.
