Synopsis

New in the architectural series (previous published in this series: The Fast Guide to Architectural Form) is The Fast Guide to Accessibility Design. Written by Baires Raffaelli, this book explores ways to create a project that focuses on accessibility. It is a reminder that serves as a checklist for those who design everyday spaces we live in. It is a random (but not too random) collection of indications to make cities more accessible. This book wants to remind us that we are not alone and as long as we take this into consideration, we will design welcoming, inclusive and functional spaces.

From the Back Cover

This book contains a number of indications to achieve the accessibledesign. You can read it as a summary, as a checklist of choices to make and toavoid, or - even better - to find accessible architectural solutions. Becauseaccessibility and inclusion concern any architectural project just like walls, foundations, power lines and windows.

Accessibility is not an issue to be addressed once the project is finishedjust placing a "disabled" sign to the ladies' restroom and installinga very tall toilet; it must be considered from the start in order to makesensible and functional choices that are consistent with the generalarchitectural and aesthetic choices.

That is why this book is divided in areas/phases (public spaces, buildings, furniture and indications): you can refer to the chapters you need depending onwhat you are designing and its actual design stage to make your own inclusiveand accessible choices.
