Dit is een speciale, feestelijke uitgave ter gelegenheid van de 75ste verjaardag van de kunstenaar en de aan haar gewijde tentoonstelling in de Amstelkerk. Het boek biedt in 250 pagina's schitterende kleurendruk een totaal-overzicht over het oeuvre van Elisabeth Levelt. De speciale gelegenheid maakte het mogelijk het boek, zolang de voorraad strekt, tegen een geringe prijs beschikbaar te maken.
Elisabeth's figuratieve werk toont een rijkdom aan karaktertypes zoals een waarzegster, een prelaat, figuren uit de Commedia dell'Arte, een jurist, een zwerver of een clown. Hun expressieve mimiek geeft uitdrukking aan een scala van menselijke emoties en karakters, zoals treurnis, mildheid, arrogantie, angstigheid, vrolijkheid, onbetrouwbaarheid of eenzaamheid. Andere figuratieve thema's zijn zangvogels, pluimvee, reptielen, vissen, landschappen en sieraden. Een speels vleugje humor doortrekt dit werk.
De textiele composities, het meer recente werk van de kunstenaar, vertonen een rijk spel van materialen, vormen en kleuren. Het is een zoektocht naar harmonie die steeds weer nieuwe paden inslaat. Het basismateriaal is zijde, zoals op de voorkant van het boek afgebeeld. Daarmee worden in dit werk krachtige kleur- en vormeffecten bereikt, die het oog strelen, uitdagen en verrassen, zoals muzikale composities dat doen met het oor.

This is a special, festive edition on the occasion of the 75th birthday of the artist and the special exhibition of her work in the Amstel Church in Amsterdam. The book provides a comprehensive review of Elisabeth Levelt's oeuvre in 250 pages of splendid, full-color print. The special occasion allows the book to be available for a trifle, as long as stocks last.
Elisabeth's figurative work includes human characters, such as a fortune teller, a prelate, characters from the Commedia dell' Arte, a lawyer, a drifter or a clown. Their facial and gestural features express traits and emotions such as tragedy, tenderness, arrogance, glee, anxiety, unreliability or loneliness. Other figurative themes are song birds, poultry, amphibians, landscapes and ornaments. A playful sense of humor pervades this work.
The textile compositions, the artist's more recent work, display a rich play of materials, shapes and hues. It is a quest for harmony, time and again opening new vistas. The basic materials are silks, as displayed on the book's cover. They afford the creation of strong effects of color and shape, which delight, challenge and surprise the eye, like musical compositions do for the ear.
The book is a treat for the eye, a rewarding gift on numerous occasions.

About the Author
Elisabeth Levelt is zowel musicus als beeldend kunstenaar. Zij heeft zich als claveciniste en organiste gespecialiseerd in de barokmuziek. Als beeldend kunstenaar heeft zij een uniek oeuvre opgebouwd op het gebied van textiele schilderijen. Haar figuratieve werk toont onder andere een rijkdom aan karaktertypes, mimiek en gelaatsuitdrukkingen,steeds met empathie en een vleugje humor. In haar composities schept zij in gedetailleerd applicatiewerk krachtige kleur- en vormeffecten, die het oog strelen, uitdagen en verrassen, zoals muzikale composities dat doen met het oor. Haar werk is bij allerlei gelegenheden tentoongesteld, en op grote schaal verkocht, in Europa en de Verenigde Staten.
