This book deals with the craftsmen who were needed for a major building project - the architect, master-builder, masons, layers of bricks and stones, carpenters and smiths. The author describes how these craftsmen worked and lived, the training they had been given, their status in society, the techniques they used, how they were employed and by whom. One chapter is devoted to the question of the financing of the building work.
Master Masons is lavishly illustrated with colour plates and black-and-white pictures covering the whole of Europe. Master Masons is aimed at both specialists and the general reader. It deals with building techniques and the function of the buildings. An extensive index means that information is easy to find if used as a reference book.
