Synopsis

In the Nordic and other stories, the craftsmanship of narrative is manifested in its purest manifestation, where the tales are intertwined with threads of human pain, wounded memory, and reflections dipped in the bitterness of exile and the irony of reality. It is a literary book that takes the reader through the corridors of daily life as experienced by the marginalized, who have only been given its margins by time to write their confessions on.

Between the two pages of this book, the confessions of Khaluf al-Shayal juxtapose with the philosophy of Plato al-Nuaimi, and the tales range from the depths of the countryside to the cities of fear, from the cruelty of the detention centers to the absurdity of university cafes, from beggar spells to the amulet of the father and the magic of stature. In a style in which the real is mixed with the imagined, the everyday and the symbolic, and the marginal heroism is written with the voice of defeat rather than victory, and the conquerors are celebrated, not

the victors. These stories, although they seem sporadic, together form an artistic canvas of the Syrian soul, in its multiplicity of layers and experiences, where memory does not escape the shackles of ridicule, and nostalgia does not escape the dust of ruin. It is a book worth listening to, not only for what it says, but also for what it is about to say, and what it hides between the lines.
