Synopsis
This book explores emerging topics in innovation policy for more inclusive and sustainable growth. Building on concrete examples, it develops the concept of experimental innovation policy: Rather than evaluating the effects of a policy at its conclusion, monitoring and feedback are incorporated from the design stage and occur continuously throughout the life of the policy. This approach has the potential to improve policy impact and implementation, as well as the efficiency of public expenditures supporting innovation policy.
Experimental policymaking is particularly important for new and emerging innovation domains, where the scope for learning and improvement is the greatest. The book explores three emerging domains of innovation policy: innovative entrepreneurship, green innovation, and propoor or base-of-the-pyramid innovation.
