Sandeepa Mukherjee Datta is Bong Mom, the nom de plume behind the very popular blog Bong Mom's Cookbook (www.bongcookbook.com). She has been entertaining her readers for over six years, and is the go-to for Bengali cooking on the web. An engineer by profession, she lives with her family in New Jersey, USA. This is her first book, based on the themes of her blog.
"Datta manages to break the myth that cooking Bengali food is "complicated", for her recipes are easy and her narrative--lucid, yes, you almost smell each dish! Wish each recipe had a photo to reckon with too. However what you enjoy most are the little tales that Datta weaves amid her tips for making "aloo-chorchori", "bhapa ilish" in her chic US Kitchen" -- Hindustan Times
"...a rich tapestry of recipes weaved in between stories of Datta's childhood in West Bengal and Bihar and post-marriage life in New Jersey. ....a hilarious read where Didas' and Mashis' grumble about the inequity of neighbours and the planning of weddings all the while trying to raise offspring on a diet of Maach and Rabindrasangeet." - The Indian Express
"An easy narrative coupled with helpful and practical tips make a new Bengali cookbook a must-have in the kitchen." - The New Indian Express
"...Garnished liberally with humorous anecdotes, starring an extended cast of family and friends, .... her light touch ensures that the fare dished up works like magic. Via kitchen and blog, she busts the myth that Bengalis survive on a diet of fish and rosogollas.
.....Her authentic, slice-of-life sharing of Bengali life in a wired world win over both the reader and the cook. Take a bow, Bong Mom's Cookbook, no matter the avatar. " - The Hindu Business Line
