About the Author:

Born in Bangalore in 1954, the poet and playwright H.S. Shivaprakash is considered one of the most influential voices in Kannada literature today. He is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi and Sangeet Natak awards, winner of the highest awards in Karnataka, in both literature and drama, as well as the prestigious Karnataka Rajyotsava Award. His works have been translated into most Indian languages, as well as English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Former editor of the Sahitya Akademi journal Indian Literature, he is now a professor of Theatre Studies at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, JNU. He is currently serving as Director, Tagore Centre, Indian Embassy, Berlin
