A self-taught street and studio photographer, Remsen Wolff rarely exhibited his work. In the 1990s, while struggling with his own identity and gender, he became fascinated by the beauty and talent of transvestites and transgenders in Amsterdam and New York. A number of the models he photographed have since become world famous, such as Kabuki Starshine and Amanda Lepore. Wolff left his archive to his last assistant, the Dutch photographer Jochem Brouwer. Recently rediscovered, this treasure trove spans four decades and contains some 200,000 images. All American Girls shows a selection of his portraits for the first time as a fitting tribute to this talented photographer.
