Stephan Keppel’s photographic work originates from marginal phenomena related to architecture, interiors and suburbs. He collects and arranges images and objects in order to engage them in a long-term relationship, resulting in a process which engages photography, reproduction and other supporting media. ‘Entre Entree’ is a project about the Parisian suburbs and the city’s ring road, the Boulevard Périphérique, wherein Keppel conceives a fragmented and claustrophobic urban landscape, manifested through numerous black-and-white images of concrete facades, vegetation and the textures, shapes and materials that together form the entity of the city.

For the creation of ?Entre Entree', Stephan Keppel spent one year in Paris and it's suburbs. By reproducing the endless variations of the city's surfaces ?with his set of printers, camera's and partly found paper-stocks? Keppel creates a new urban and visual structure. This experimental approach gives a unique perspective on a city that is over the years so often visually celebrated. ?Entre Entree' is a very dense, attractive, but at the same time uncanny publication, which is a highlight in Keppel's ongoing research on public space, urban structures and reproduction.Stephan Keppel studied autonomous art (1994?98) at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (NL) and has since worked primarily with photographic and printmaking techniques. He has had his studio in Amsterdam (NL) since 2003. The book projects Reprinting the City (Den Helder, 2012), Entre Entree (Paris, 2014), Flat Finish (New York, 2017), and Soft Copy Hard Copy (Amsterdam, 2021), all published by Fw:Books in Amsterdam, were acquired for various collections, for example the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Stadsarchief Amsterdam, Nederlands Fotomuseum Rotterdam (NL), the International Center for Architecture in New York (US), and the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal (CA). Recently Keppel won the Somfy Photography Award 2020 with an installation at the Nederlands Fotomuseum Rotterdam. Entre Entree è una pubblicazione molto densa e attraente, ma allo stesso tempo inquietante, punto culminante nella continua ricerca di Keppel sullo spazio pubblico, le strutture urbane e la riproduzione.PREMI:The 15 Best Dutch Photobooks 2014 De VolkskrantPhoto-eye's Best Books of 2014Best of 2014 by Photobookstore MagazineTen Best Artbooks 2014 by Brooklyn Rail Prima edizione di 500 esemplari (First edition of 500 copies).
