Synopsis

Thoughts of women filled my head from dawn to dusk. Oh, Eros! Let me swim in your wine-dark seas!

A promising young academic flies off on an adventure, in search of romance, passion and love. Women dominate his thoughts and he thirsts for the erotic spark. Sometimes his interactions live beyond his wildest dreams, while at other times his fantasies and desires collapse and crumble before his eyes. The sum of his experiences leads to an explosive finale that will shake you to the core, just like heavy turbulence.

Intelligent and humorous Turbulence is an adventure novel that dares to dive into the realms of erotica and inspirational romance. Through a series of encounters with women the unpredictable anti-hero develops insights into philosophy and religion, aging, love, sex and marriage. The hard lessons of life cause his views to constantly evolve in the face of depression, divorce, alcohol abuse, failure and tragedy.

There is only one constant, turbulence, which is capricious and unpredictable and can hit at any moment. If you like air travel, then you will love this erotically charged adventure, both supremely triumphant and heart-achingly tragic in one breath.

About the Author

Bruce McLaren is an Australian from rural New South Wales, who left home and just kept on going. He has an academic background in the archaeology and ancient history of the Middle East and Central Asia, regions in which he has both travelled and worked extensively. Since he was a boy McLaren always wanted to write. A keen observer of the wide world around him and the experiences to be had therein, he felt an insatiable urge to convey the passions he felt through writing. Turbulence represents his first foray into the mysterious and magical world of contemporary fiction. Compared to the strictures of writing a doctoral dissertation, writing contemporary fiction, unfettered and free to let the imagination run wild, has been a true joy to him.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
WOW! An incredible journey from young idealistic man to older tired journeyed man. He believed in nothing, but went on an endless search for the pure delights of life. He loved women, really, really loved women. His own hedonistic ways consistently led him further and further off his chosen path to the point that he was sad, tired and feeling life was ultimately pointless. The style of the prose was interesting in the first person telling of his travels and adventures. He definitely had an interesting and intense view of life. A readers journey not to be missed!

Borderbumble5.0 out of 5 starsJust like plane travel, life is full of 'em.February 15, 2018Format: Kindle EditionWarning! This is a book for a person with a curious but thorough intellect. If you are looking for something superfluous, don't get this ebook. It will not hold your interest. However, I will have to say this work is the best piece of poetic prose I've read in maybe twenty years, if not more. NOT kidding! Exposition has been crafted seamlessly and so vividly, you can see it in UHD in your head quite easily. Usually most authors' attempts at exposition bores me because it exposes the immaturity of the writers.

This isn't my usual genre to read. This isn't erotica, but it IS an erotically-charge dromp in the life of a young, scholarly archeologist staged strictly around and about flights to and from countries all around the world.

I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into when I promised a small publisher in Amsterdam to give Turbulence a read, but I am not regretting it at all. This isn't a sizzling romance novel. It isn't action-adventure or heavy mystery... unless we are talking the heavy mystery that is human nature. As the hero of this novel tells one of his seat neighbors, he is a student of humanity. And that is what this story is about. Not just the people around him, but more importantly, himself, as we see him depart his birth land with youthful aspirations and beliefs but then is slowly transformed to his more adult visage. (I really don't want to spoil the story for you.)

Length: Short novel, but woe to speed readers! This is one of those books that does not speed-read well! Relax and take a little time savoring it.

Character development: Exceptional. Probably one of the best I've read in ten years. I grew to know this character quite intimately. Laugh. Cry. Cringe. Pity. Roll my eyes. I did it all.

Emotional development: I remember the publisher telling me that though this novel was nowhere close to the genre she normally published, she had to read it, and she couldn't put it down. Ditto, ditto, ditto. McLauren really makes me like this guy even though he is full of piss and vinegar at the beginning. He's just being a guy! But he is a very sympathetic character, one with his own collection of strengths, weaknesses, and faults. No one is perfect which makes him the ideal hero in modern writing.

Speed of action: McLauren understands the need for the reader to take a little time to gasp for breath between episodes of excitement. No rushes, no slow plodding.

Predictability: Very unpredictable... which is life and humans in general.

Credibility issues: I've only been to half the places he's been to, and I have to say he's spot on on those regions I've seen. Having been born and raised in Southern California, I laughed hysterically on his take on LA women because HE'S RIGHT! He knows his archeology, especially some of the stupid trends that the science went through that caused it to almost lose its status as a science. He knows his architecture. He knows his ancient and modern-day histories of the regions he's travelled. I was impressed.

Grammar and technical problems: If I had any complaints, they were so minor, they really were meant to make it have a better flow of words in one paragraph. Otherwise, nothing annoying or even noticeable. HE EVEN KNOWS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IT'S AND ITS!!!!! Bless his soul...

If you're wanting to experience something a little different but know that you are NOT wasting reading time, I highly recommend this book. It's a refreshing read about what could be real life for any one of us.

I received this book as an ARC for free as aforementioned. I voluntarily reviewed this book. This is my honest, no-punches-pulled review.
