Synopsis
La Politica de Aristoteles, referencia obligada para la reflexion filosofica acerca del estado y del derecho, puede ser leida en diferentes niveles y con diferentes propositos, abordarse desde distintas secciones y prestarse aun a una consulta parcial. Mas que reflejar o defender el fenomeno historico de la ciudad griega (la polis), Aristoteles se ocupa de lo politico, esto es, los asuntos propios de la ciudad. A pesar de la abundante referencia a personajes y acontecimientos con que ilustra sus argumentos, no estudia un fenomeno historico, sino un fenomeno natural (es decir, no resultado de un contrato), necesario para asegurar la felicidad humana y que, preeminente en Grecia, podria sin embargo darse en cualquier parte. El hombre es por naturaleza un animal politico, y solo en la polis puede lograr su plena realizacion y su felicidad. El fin de la polis es contribuir al desarrollo y perfeccion de los seres humanos y formar ciudadanos que obren bien. Una ciudad feliz sera aquella gobernada por un buen regimen politico, que no es un mero conjunto de leyes sino un conjunto de habitos de accion politica. Ademas de su innegable interes historico, la Politica ofrece al pensamiento politico contemporaneo una de las fuentes principales de las corrientes anti-individualistas.
