El tango: su historia y evolución, pequeño y un tanto humilde libro de Horacio Ferrer, tiene el valor de marcar un hito en la zarandeadahistoria de la música empírica, repentista y provocadora del tango.Podríamos decir que, con él, termina la edad de la inocencia paraasumir la mayoría, con los riesgos y responsabilidades que estosupone. Según el autor, el tango es una música de especie popular nofolklorizada, básicamente reglada en compas binario de 4/8. Adiferencia de otras artes musicales que son en general improvisadas,el tango es, siempre, música compuesta de antemano y ejecutada conacuerdo previo. Posiblemente, este ensayo haya sido el germen deanálisis posteriores, en cuyo desarrollo no fueron ajenos creadorescomo Piazzolla, Garello, Stamponi, Salgan.
