About the Author:
José Asunción Silva (Bogotá, 1865 - 1896) fue una de las voces más altas de la poesía colombiana. Se le reconoce, junto a Rubén Darío, como uno de los creadores del Modernismo hispanoamericano. Dotado de una gran sensibilidad artística y de una notable inteligencia, tuvo una formación literaria precoz, resultado de un ambiente familiar cultivado y creativo. A los dos años de edad ya tenía fama de prodigio en Bogotá, pues sabía leer, escribir e incluso pintar. En 1896, tras una íntima velada con amigos, Silva se suicida disparándose con un revólver en el corazón.
