Arthur Hacker tells you who they were, what they said and did, and what they thought about Hong Kong?and sometimes what people thought about them. They came from every walk of life and from many different countries and cultures. Their opinions varied from heavenly adulation to sheer loathing. The pages are filled with stories of dastardly pirates, pulsating pop stars, failed pornographers, down-and-out adventurers, captains of ships, holier-than-thou missionaries, Russian Tsars, emperors, princes and even the odd horse. ## ## It is a very amusing and at times bittersweet social history of Hong Kong as seen through the eyes of its visitors, beginning with Han Yu, the legendary Taoist poet, who was banished to the territory over a thousand years ago, and ending up with the superstar Madonna. In this charming pot-pourri of travellers' tales, Hacker captures brilliantly the atmosphere of Hong Kong throughout the ages. ## ## Some of the pictures in this magnificently illustrated history have never been published. There are over two hundred beautiful old prints and photographs, which come mainly from the author's collection. Arthur Hacker also collects historical trivia. This book is littered with it.## ### INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Please Note. FREE SHIPPING IS UK ONLY. PLEASE, contact me for a shipping quotation. ###. No Author signature.
