About the Author

Duanmu Hongliang (1912-1996) was a notable Chiense writer who rose to prominence during the Sino-Japanese War.

Howard Goldblatt is research professor of East Asian languages and literatures at the University of Notre Dame.

Haili Kong is professor of Chinese at Swarthmore College.
