Synopsis

Have you ever felt that you are just not living up to your potential? That you could be getting more out of life?

In this introspective guide, Rabbi Shlomo Einhorn taps into the wisdom of the wisest of men Abraham, Joseph, and Moses to reveal ancient secrets of productivity and success. Along with passages from the Torah and quotes from noted Jewish scholars and leaders, Rabbi Einhorn incorporates thoughts and experiences from popular culture by citing the likes of the rock group Queen, Muhammad Ali, and inspirational speaker and author Tony Robbins, among countless others. With a wit and charm honed from his varied experiences as a rabbi, lecturer, and teacher, Rabbi Einhorn melds the ancient Jewish sources with the best of modernity to guide readers to a better, more fulfilled life.

About the Author

Rabbi Shlomo Einhorn has his rabbinic ordination and a master's in education from Yeshiva University. He started out as a rabbinic intern at Manhattan's legendary Lincoln Square Synagogue. In 2005 he became the head rabbi of New York's West Side Institutional Synagogue. Seven years later this once-empty shul was drawing over 400 people each week and had increased synagogue membership by 70 percent. Rabbi Einhorn's out-of-the-box work was so successful that in 2010 the Orthodox Union gave him his own think tank to craft programming for other synagogues across America. Want to grow your membership? Run a successful Chanukah event? Spice up your shul's Shabbat? Einhorn has a program for that. In 2012, Einhorn moved back to his hometown of Los Angeles to serve as dean and rabbi of Yavneh Hebrew Academy.

Review

Rabbi Shlomo Einhorn is one of America's brightest and best young rabbis and this new book tells us why.... Engaging, inspiring and challenging, these are essays to cherish and apply day by day. A fine work by a fine man. --Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations: 1991 2013

The top young Orthodox rabbi in America...as well as one of the most dynamic educators that the Jewish people have. Judaism Alive...challenges your assumptions and inspires you to grow, think, and experience life in a more profound way. --Rabbi Steven Weil, Senior Managing Director of the Orthodox Union

Here is an accessible, wise guide to getting more life from your years. Rabbi Einhorn moves easily from Sanhedrin to Springsteen, illuminating corners of our souls all along the way. --Rabbi David Wolpe, Rabbi of Sinai Temple in Los Angeles, California; acclaimed author; Newsweek's most influential rabbi in America

Exceptionally well written, deftly organized and presented, as informed and informative as it is thoughtful and thought-provoking, Judaism Alive is an inspired and inspiring addition to synagogue, community, and academic library Judaic Studies reference collections and supplemental studies curriculum. --Jack Mason, Midwest Book Review

In his recent book, Judaism Alive by Rabbi Shlomo Einhorn of the Yavneh Academy in Los Angeles, makes the following rather telling observation in his brief chapter on Chanukah:

Life is Like a Dreidel. One engagement that we have with time is the way...expressed by Rebbe Nachman. Life is like a dreidel. Life is a seemingly random spin of the wheel. Ray Billington, in his discussion of moral philosophy, compares this outlook with the image of a bag filled with nails. Shake up the bag and the result is random and chaotic. This is one perception of time. The shortsightedness of this perception is that it ignores that great Hand controlling the dreidel. The Dinover Rebbe distinguishes between the control of a Purim gragger where the handle is below and the Chanukah dreidel where the handle is above. G-d's Hand in the Chanukah story is open and revealed.

This teaching is most relevant to both what is happening all around us today, seen by all, world wide, and of the lessons of history as related to all of us and expressed and ritually experienced by us in the observance of Chanukah. The next time you witness a game of dreidel; do please remember the above teaching. --Alan Jay Gerber, The Kosher Bookworm
