Este libro busca contribuir a un mejor entendimiento del proceso migratorio desde una perspectiva global, asimismo intenta matizar las aproximaciones dominantes sobre el proceso migratorio global contemporneo del sur hacia el norte, enfatizando la importancia de los flujos procedentes de Latinoamrica, hasta ahora limitados a la migracin hacia los Estados Unidos. / In the dawn of the twenty first century the exodus of Colombians has reached historic numbers, most of them have left in search of better economic opportunities, others fleeing from political persecution. Today, more than five million Colombians live in thousands of communities in dozens of different countries. Until recently Venezuela and the United States were the main destinations, but London has become a new and important destination. This book seeks to contribute to a better understanding of the migration process from a global perspective. At the same time it tries to harmonize the dominant approach on the global migration process from the south to the north, stressing the importance of the migrants coming from Latin America, until today limited to the migration to the United States.

Luis Eduardo Guarnizo is assistant professor of community studies and development at the University of California, Davis. He has researched and written extensively on transnationalism. He is co-author of "Capitalistas del Tropico. "His work has appeared in "The Annals of the Academy of Political and Social Science, Revista de Ciencias Sociales, "and "Genera y Sociedad."
