About the Author

Edith Mirante has roamed Southeast Asia for nearly two decades, collectinginformation on human rights and environmental issues. In 1986, shefounded Project Maje, which distributes material on Burma’s struggle forfreedom. She has investigated abuse and resistance in some of the mostremote corners of Burma’s frontier war zone.

The author of the acclaimed Burmese Looking Glass, Mirante has writtenchapters in several other books, as well as articles for encyclopedias, TheNew York Times, Asiaweek, Cultural Survival Quarterly, and Earth FirstJournal. She has testified on Burma before the US Congress, EuropeanTrade Commission, and the International Labor Organization. She wasinstrumental in organizing the campaign for corporate withdrawal fromBurma, of the world-wide Free Burma Coalition.
