Laura Tanna, a writer who holds a doctorate in African Languages and Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was born in the United States, has lived in England, France, Uganda and Jamaica, and is married to Dhiru Tanna. She has been active in researching and documenting Jamaican oral traditions since 1973 and has served on the Central Committee of The Jamaica Memory Bank, the Council of the Institute of Jamaica and the Board of the African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica. She writes frequently on art and culture for The Gleaner, Jamaica Journal and Skywritings and is the author of the book, Baugh: Jamaica's Master Potter and producer of the audiocassettes, Jamaican Folk Tales and Oral Histories and Maroon Storyteller.
