There are near about 3300 punch marked coins preserved in the Bangladesh National Museum (BNM) collection but most of the coins are still unpublished but only 234 coins have been selected in this catalogue. Four copper cast coins have been included in this book discovered from the excavation of Mahasthan in Bogura district. Kushana initiation gold coins and some Kushana copper coins have been included in this catalogue. These coins were collected from different areas of Bangladesh in different times of the last hundred years of the museum. 18 Gupta gold coins are included in this catalogue these are discovered from different areas of Bangladesh. There are near about 1000 Harikela coins preserved in the BNM collection which demands a separate volume of catalogue book. The present author has selected only one 53 Harikela coins to affix in this book from different hoards discovered many places from southeast Bengal. Ancient coins are very important sources of reconstructing the history of our ancient glorious past. This book may certainly be used as a corroborative evidence of the epigraphic, archaeological and literary sources of ancient Bengal.
