About the Author:
Marcos Wasem was born in Montevideo in 1977. He studied Literature at the Instituto Nacional de Docencia, in Montevideo, Uruguay. In 2000 he moved to Israel, where he earned an MA degree at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, with a dissertation on the poetry of Argentinean writer Néstor Perlongher. The essay, Barroso y sublime: poética para Perlongher, was published in Buenos Aires in 2008. In 2004, he took part in the Curso Superior de Filología para jóvenes hispanistas, in Santander, Spain. In 2005, he moved to New York, to start his Ph.D. at CUNY's Graduate Center. He is currently instructor at the City College of New York, where he teaches Spanish language and literature. He published his first book of poetry, Aterrizaje de primeros semovientes, in Montevideo, in 2007 (Artefato) and the broadside La cachila blindada in 2009 (New York, Pen Press).
