A principios del siglo pasado vendedores ambulantes árabes recorrían la Patagonia, para veder su mercadería o trocarla cono los indígenas por plumas de avestruz, cerda y tejidos artesanales. Muchas veces, sus familiares o conocidos no volvían a tener noticias de ellos. Ello motivó una investigaciónpolicial que descubrió que habían sido víctimas del ataque de indígenas procedentes de Chile, que los habían matado y en algunos casos torturado. Esta investigación da cuenta de esos hechos, basándose en documentos oficiales recogidos en el Archivo de la Justicia de la Provincia de Río Negro.
