Chpt 1 - Ground Investigation (Geophysical, Geological, Geotechnical Surveys & Lab Tests),
Chpt 2 - Shallow Foundations (Bearing & Settlement Analysis, Classification),
Chpt 3 - Deep Foundations (Load Bearing & Settlement Design, Load Testing, Integrity Testing),
Chpt 4 - Driven Piles (Dynamic Formulas, Production, Installation, Hammers & Driving Accessories, Driven Cast-in-Situ Techniques),
Chpt 5 - Bored & Mini Piles, Caissons & Cofferdams (Design, Production, Machinery, etc),
Chpt 6 - Deep Excavations (Engineering concepts, Excavation Support Walls),
Chpt 7 - Ground Anchors (Classification, Installation, Stressing, etc),
Chpt 8 - Excavation Support Wall Methods (Permeable and Impermeable walls, Diaphragm walls, Soil Nailing),
Chpt 9 - Drilling (Parameters, Rotary, Roto-Percussive, Percussive, Duplex, Odex, Sonic Drilling and their Machinery),
Chpt 10 - Grouting (Design Parameters and Permeation, Compaction, Fracture, Gravity & Jet Grouting Techniques),
Chpt 11 - Grouting Materials, Mixtures & Machinery (Cementitious Suspensions, Chemical Solutions, Mixers, Agitators, Pumps, Packers, etc),
Chpt 12 - Ground Improvement and Preloading (Concepts, Soil & Rock Improvement, Sand & Prefabricated Drains, etc),
Chpt 13 - Vibrocompaction and Grouting (Vibroflotation, Vibro Replacement, Driven Cast-in-Situ Stone Piles, Various Grouting Techniques Used for Soil Improvement),
Chpt 14 - Deep Soil Mixing and Dynamic Compaction (Soil Mixing materials, Techniques, Applicationa, Dynamic Compaction, Dynamic Replacement),
Chpt 15 - Other Ground Improvement Techniques (Piling, Blasting, Geosynthetics, Bioengineering, Freezing, Electro-Chemical Improvement Techniques),
Chpt 16 - Foundation Engineering for Dams and Tunnels (Classification, Drilling and Grouting Techniques)

Each topic in the book covers a variety of implementation techniques, materials, and the related machinery and equipment used in foundation engineering applied settings. Simple theoretical concepts, analysis methods, and design calculations are also presented to back up and demonstrate the various techniques discussed.

TAPFE has been written to meet the need for a practice oriented text for students and smooth the transition from student to practicing engineer. It is intended for use in senior or graduate level courses to assist students to learn how the engineering concepts learned in previous courses is used in the practice of foundation engineering.

TAPFE is also intended to serve as a reference text for practicing civil engineers. With its wide array of techniques and related machinery coverage, TAPFE serves as a valuable source to complement to the learning of those working on construction and design issues related to foundation engineering.

TAPFE's text, figures and tables are printed in g r e y s c a l e (black & white).

About the Author

Ali Candogan has worked as technical & general manager, and executive director of ENR listed general and specialist foundation contractors for over 25 years before he started his consulting and teaching career in 2000. He has participated in the technical and operational management of over 200 multi-million-dollar deep foundation (piling), deep excavation, dam drilling & grouting, and soil improvement projects in Europe, Asia and America. Dr Candogan received his BSCE from Robert College (Bosphorus University) where Karl Terzaghi developed the principles of soil mechanics in the 1920s. After receiving the Senator Fulbright scholarship, he completed his MSCE at the University of Connecticut and his PhD on Engineering Mechanics at Virginia Polytechnique Institute & State University.

Review

The second edition of this up-to-date text book surveys a wide spectrum of foundation engineering concepts, practices and equipment. With over 600 photos and illustrations, plus more than 90 tables, The Art and Practice of Foundation Engineering (TAPFE) is a must-have for all practicing geotechnical and civil engineers. Seniors and graduate students of civil engineering will also benefit highly from TAPFE, which introduces them to field practices on commonly used foundation engineering techniques. --Bookkibook

Foundation Engineering Manual is a well illustrated text book which utilizes hundreds of photos, drawings, illustrations and tables. More than half of its 728 pages contain a visual presentation making it an easy-to-read Manual of Practice. It focuses on the field practices, construction techniques, machinery and materials utilized in Construction Projects which incorporate Foundation Engineering. It would serve as a valuable asset for practicing Civil and Geotechnical Engineers' libraries. Foundation Engineering Manual is also well suited to be a text book or reference book for Civil Engineering students majoring in Foundation Engineering. --Digital Dreams
