In the 1920s, the way of life in Central Europe dazzles George who left the sleepy town of Famagusta to study medicine in Vienna. Enamoured by the music and committed to his profession, George has no intention of returning to his homeland until the grim rise of fascism leaves him no choice.
Back in Cyprus in the 1940s, he meets young, bright and beautiful Kaety. There is obviously an attraction between them but George is unwilling to commit so he sends her to work at a hospital in Alexandria, Egypt. Trying hard to forget him, dutifully Kaety immerses herself in work and life of the cosmopolitan city during the reign of King Farouk, until one day a close friend invites her back to Limassol.
