The 64-page book contains full-color, shaded-relief topographic maps of the entire state, highlighting such features as the Buffalo National River and the Ouachita National Forest. The Gazetteer section is an extensive directory of interesting things to do and places to visit, such as: touring and mountain biking trails, sport fishing sites in lakes and streams, public golf courses, floating trips for all skill levels, hiking trails, summaries of the most scenic drives, historic sites, national forests and state parks, campgrounds accommodating tents and RVs, hunting charts listing big game and bird species found in wildlife areas, museums, crystal mines and children's attractions.
The Atlas features comprehensive interstate, US and state highway coverage with easy-to-follow route symbols and numbered exits on the interstates. There is also a two-page, full state map, showing the entire highway system for easy reference. These map pages show major connecting roads and thousands of named local roads with the latest 911 road name information. Also indicated are lakes and streams, with fishing areas shown right on the maps.
The maps are at a scale of 1:200,000, which translates to one inch equaling approximately 3.2 miles. These shaded relief maps depict the terrain in a three-dimensional view with a contour interval of 100 feet.
A grid system along the margins of the maps indicates latitude and longitude measurements, which enables people to use the Atlas with Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers.
