Stanley Ellin came out of nowhere in 1948 when his first short story, "The Specialty of the House" was published. He almost immediately was included in the company of Roald Dahl and John Collier. He is that good and the short stories in this particular volume, 10 stories in all, proves the point. These stories are all unusual, with a definite sense of dread, all of them with zip and a zinger awaiting the reader,
