This is a stirring and manipulative book of Maoist-era, anti-Tibetan propaganda sculpture. The figures here are dynamic and brimming with emotion -- think a 20th century museum diorama injected with the pathos of melodrama. There's a dynamism to the use of the human form here that derives from late Renaissance/Mannerist European painting and sculpture (Michelangelo and Caravaggio come to mind.) Yet the final product is wholly Chinese.
Softcover with dustjacket. 90 page. Captioned b&w and a few color images on every page. With a short introduction about Tibet's "dark and savage feudal serf society."
