Synopsis
Larry Porter (*1951), American jazz musician and composer, wrote "Piano Rags" out of love for ragtime and as literature for his piano students. Four of the compositions are inspired by memories and impressions of his native country. In writing these pieces, it was the composer's aim to come up with something fresh and original while retaining formal and stylistic elements of ragtime. In doing so Porter gave free reign to his creativity and at the same time paid his respects to this extraordinary century-old art form.
