Synopsis
Max wrote this tiny piece for the small chorus of his St Magnus Festival, with a plain string accompaniment. It works absolutely beautifully and its text (in Latin) reminds us that sometimes we should just enjoy music with a simple heart: ‘Wealth may be yours, wisdom too, and you may have beauty, but if pride touch them, all will turn to dross.’ Instrumentation: mixed choir (SATB) and string orchestra op. 305
