Synopsis

What if saying hello didn’t have to mean giving a hug?

When Lucy arrives at Grandma June and Grandpa Henry’s house for a busy family gathering, everyone is happy to see her. But with so many voices, smiles, hugs, and reaching arms, Lucy isn’t quite sure how she wants to say hello.

With a little encouragement from Mom and Dad, Lucy discovers that there are lots of ways to greet the people she loves—a wave, a smile, a fist bump, a silly dance, sitting close, or even no touch at all.

And when Lucy worries that saying “no” might hurt someone’s feelings, she learns something important: she can be kind, loving, and still listen to herself.

My Hello, My Way is a gentle, reassuring picture book about personal boundaries, body autonomy, and respectful affection. Through a warm family gathering, young children see that love doesn’t disappear when they choose not to hug—and that their comfort and feelings matter.

The book also includes a For Grown-Ups section and a printable-style “My Hello Menu” activity to help families practice different ways of greeting and expressing affection together.

Perfect for children ages 4–8, families, classrooms, and anyone helping little ones learn that there is more than one way to say, “I’m happy to see you.”
