Their “attitude” (defiant, proudful) was that this would make themselves “famous” (i.e.: God like). This would also keep them from being scattered across the earth. God saw this as a threat: “One people, one language!” To God, this would only be the first step. Mankind would stop at nothing! So, God changed each of their speech, so they would not understand each other. God caused them to scatter all over the world.
