Synopsis

Nobody hands you a manual for surviving an engineering PhD — the recruiting brochure covers the research, but not the years of stalled experiments, difficult advisor dynamics, and quiet self-doubt that come with them.

The PhD Nobody Warned You About is the honest guide that fills that gap — walking the entire arc of an PhD (Engineering or non- Engineering), from deciding whether to apply, through choosing the right advisor, surviving burnout and stuck research, all the way to landing your next role — whether that's in industry or academia.

Inside, you'll find straight answers to the questions nobody else will give you straight answers to:

• Is a PhD actually right for you — or are you chasing it for the wrong reasons?
• How do you choose an advisor who won't make your next five years miserable?
• What do you do when your research stalls for months with no end in sight?
• How do you translate years of specialized research into a resume that actually lands industry interviews?
• Academia or industry — and how do you decide without regret?

Written for engineering PhD students and graduates, grounded in the realities of grad school and the job market, this book won't just cheer you on — it'll tell you what's actually ahead, so you can navigate it with your eyes open.
