Alu has always loved swimming. But joining a swim team is different. It means showing up somewhere new, meeting other kids, and hoping she will fit in.
Seven-year-old Alu is homeschooled by her mom. She enjoys being at home, but sometimes she wishes she had more friends her own age. So when her mom suggests joining a swim team, Alu decides to give it a try.
The first day made her nervous. The second day feels different.
This time, Alu is excited to get back to the pool. She grabs her swim bag, puts on her goggles, and joins the other swimmers. With Coach Elena encouraging her from the deck and her new teammates cheering her on, Alu begins to feel more comfortable with every lap.
By the end of practice, the pool no longer feels like a strange place filled with unfamiliar faces. It feels like somewhere she might belong.
Alu’s Second Day at Swim Practice is a sweet story about swimming, friendship, confidence, and finding the courage to try something new.
