Synopsis
An ancient engine awakens, vengeance ignites, and unlikely allies must stand between a city and its impending doom. The Alchemancer series continues.
The city of Brighton promises new beginnings for Aaron, Serena, and the taciturn eslar, Ensel Rhe. However, when a devastating explosion rocks the city, Aaron and Serena are arrested, while Ensel Rhe slips away on business of his own. The pair is allowed to present their case to the earl, who agrees to release them if they agree to undertake a very special duty. The earl's scientists unearthed an ancient, infernal machine called the Nullification Engine, and the earl wishes to know everything about it.
Dormant for centuries, the Engine is now active and collecting energy for an unknown purpose. While Aaron and Serena work to unravel its mysteries, Ensel Rhe confronts his past when he discovers his daughter has come to Brighton, but in the company of one of his greatest enemies.
A race against time begins as Aaron and Serena must uncover the Engine's true purpose before it fully activates. All the while, a web of betrayal, forbidden magic, and deadly politics threatens to ensnare them. In a city where trust is a rare commodity and everyone has their own agenda, one wrong move could mean the difference between salvation and destruction.
