Synopsis

Award-winning and heralded as “a book that can strengthen the spirit of its reader and transform or even save lives,” Move Forward Stronger is like a friend when we’re in need, the therapist we’re hesitant to call, and the inner voice we’ve been listening for ... telling us: “You can feel happiness again.”

Something happened. The death of someone you love. A suicide, divorce or loss of a close relationship, job, career, or business. A negative change in your financial picture. A medical diagnosis or tragic accident. A physical or emotional injury. It happened. Now what?

How you cope with and process it determines the quality of your life, your interactions, and relationships after it. Julia A. Nicholson’s Move Forward Stronger provides a dynamic framework that empowers you with a new mindset, equips you with practical tools to use in any situation (personally or professionally), and gives you a new way to process unpredictable and unwanted change and loss in a positive and productive way, integrate it into your life, and get something valuable from it going forward.

Inspirational and Practical

Whether you’re looking to be inspired by the courageous and candid personal story of someone who has endured more than her fair share of adversity and loss, or you open the pages of Move Forward Stronger seeking help in coping with your own unwanted change, loss, or grief, Julia’s stories and insights will leave you believing in the strength of the human spirit.

You’ll emerge believing in the power within yourself to move forward stronger instead of getting stuck in what or why it happened — confident knowing that you can process change, loss, and grief in a positive and productive way, and that you can learn to live with your losses instead of living in them.

If you are stuck in feelings and emotions of grief and the conventional wisdom isn’t helping you, you’re not losing your mind (though sometimes it might feel that way). What happened cannot be undone or bargained away. You are not a failure. There is nothing wrong with you, you are not to blame, and you are not alone.

“For people like me, who have been ready to give up on life more than once, how do we find momentum, a purpose, or a reason to go on living in the face of our feelings and emotions? It’s not about being knocked down and getting back up one more time. Yes, getting up is important, but how you get back up — ideally more confident, determined, resilient, stronger — is what truly makes the difference.”
— Julia A. Nicholson, Author of Move Forward Stronger

About the Author

Julia A. Nicholson is a former CEO, executive leadership expert, business consultant, and adjunct professor of business who has excelled for decades as an industry-leading visionary on organizational governance, strategic planning, team building, and executive performance. But she faced incredible adversity on her way to career success and personal joy.

As a teenager, Julia was a passenger in a high-speed, head-on automobile collision that nearly took her life, leaving her unconscious and critically injured. A few years later, fresh off a harrowing divorce from an abusive husband, she found herself a single, unemployed mother of two young children. She lacked self-confidence, self-esteem, and any marketable skills or education, yet she was determined to move forward stronger.

Just over a decade later, Julia had earned multiple college degrees, launched herself into executive leadership positions, and founded a consulting business -- all while raising her children and processing more than her fair share of loss, unwanted change, and adversity. Her career has taken her into some of the most dynamic, high-pressure boardrooms in the country, most recently serving as the CEO of the Motion Picture Industry Pension & Health Plans, but not before she experienced the most devastating loss of her life: the suicide death of her new husband.

In reflecting upon what happened between her losses and her successes, Julia Nicholson came to understand the life-changing power of what she calls the 5 Facets of the Diamond Framework that helped her to move forward stronger. The 5 Facets were, and continue to be, central to Julia's personal success and happiness. Today, Julia's reassuring message and her framework for processing adversity are inspiring and empowering others -- through her book, Move Forward Stronger: A Dynamic Framework to Process Change, Loss, and Grief, and through her 2021 TEDx Talk, "The Way We Think About Loss and Grief Is Dead Wrong." She frequently keynotes on resilience, grit, and adversity -- bringing her expertise and passion to organizations and conferences across the country -- and she has written for Forbes.com and other leading publications. She donates proceeds from her events to charities that serve people in the areas of mental health and wellness, suicide awareness and intervention, and healthcare.

Outside her professional life, Julia enjoys spending time with her family and traveling to different areas of the world, meeting new people, and hearing their stories. Julia is an avid golfer, aspiring home chef, and passionate Denver Broncos fan.
