One could spend years exploring the Italian peninsula and still miss beautiful works. This journey was limited to two months and the author had to prioritize what to see and where to go. About the Author

PAUL OSTERGAARD, FAIA is a Consulting Principal of Urban Design Associates and an instructor in the School of Architecture at Carnegie-Mellon University. He has designed mixed-income neighborhoods, revitalized downtowns, new urban centers, transit-oriented districts, and new communities. His projects in North America, Europe, and the Middle East have a solid foundation in urban design principles and values but with a wide range of place-based design responses. He enjoys introducing young professionals to the practice of urban design.
