Synopsis
Key West is no stranger to strange happenings—but when a friend dies in a late-night hit-and-run, even the laid-back island starts to feel a little less sunny.
Amateur sleuths Dan Coast and his trusty sidekick Red Baxter are stunned when their buddy Toby Derbish is killed crossing Duval street. At first, the case seems simple: a tragic accident, nothing more. But the more Dan and Red dig into Toby’s life, the more they realize the accident may have solved a problem for someone … because more than one person had reason to be glad Toby was gone.
Before they can untangle the growing list of suspects, another death rocks the island—making it clear that whatever secrets Toby left behind are still very much alive.
As the investigation heats up, Dan and Red get some unexpected help from their old friend Skip Stoner, who returns to Key West just in time to lend his unique talents to the case. Meanwhile, a promise to Toby’s dying aunt pulls the two sleuths into the chaos of funeral arrangements—where family drama, old grudges, and island gossip provide more clues than comfort.
