Stop giving advice. Start preaching news.
If you are a pastor, lay preacher, or student who has ever felt the "Thursday panic"—staring at a blank page with a sermon due in days—this guide is your emergency rescue.
In Preach the Gospel Story, Christopher J. Hall provides a practical, field-tested framework for moving beyond moralistic "to-do list" sermons to messages that are truly gospel-centered. Many preachers inadvertently fall into the trap of telling their congregation to "try harder" or "be better," but the power of the pulpit lies in the finished work of Jesus Christ.
In this field guide, you will discover:
The Gospel Spine: How to ensure every sermon—from any text in the Bible—points to the person and work of Jesus.
The Narrative Arc: A simple four-movement framework (Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Reconciliation) that works for every passage.
The Panic Button: A 30-minute framework for those moments when you need a clear, Christ-centered structure fast.
Application with Grace: How to move from "advice" to "news," motivating your listeners through the love of God rather than guilt or duty.
Whether you are a seasoned preacher looking to refresh your perspective or a beginner looking for a "nuts and bolts" approach to the craft, this book is designed to help you preach the one big story of the Bible with clarity, passion, and power.
Don't just give them a moral lesson. Give them Christ.

Christopher J. Hall is the Lead Pastor of Buck Creek Community Church in Wyoming, Michigan, where his family has five generations of roots. He co-founded Plant 616, a cross-denominational network of pastors, church planters, and ministry leaders working to connect, equip, and catalyze the mission of the church across the greater Grand Rapids area. He also serves as an Evangel Dean with World Impact, training urban church planters to reach the global poor. He holds a BA in Public Administration from Western Michigan University and has been ordained through the Kingdom Network.
Before entering ministry, Chris spent years working across nearly every dimension of affordable housing — from policy and advocacy with organizations like HBA of Greater Grand Rapids and Green Built Michigan, to hands-on development work with Habitat for Humanity and ICCF Community Homes, to philanthropic leadership at ICCF. That two-decade track record in housing and community development, alongside his church planting work, shapes his conviction that the Gospel belongs in the neighborhood — not just the sanctuary.
He has preached in a wide range of settings — from blue-collar Wyoming, Michigan, where he has spent most of his ministry, to suburban, large, small, and everything in between. Preach the Gospel Story: A Field Guide to Gospel-Centered Sermons is his attempt to put fifteen years of field-tested, gospel-centered preaching methodology into the hands of anyone who gets the privilege of opening God's Word.
Chris and his wife Jenni have been married since 1996. They have four children and live in Wyoming, Michigan.
