The chapters in this book appeared originally in The New American, whose purpose is encapsulated by the magazine’s cover tagline, “That freedom shall not perish.”
Even in their original form, most of the chapters were written from the point of view of being stitched together with other important pieces of the overarching story of the Deep State. In fact, the first six chapters originally appeared together in TNA’s special “Deep State” issue for January 8, 2018, and the next three chapters appeared together in the magazine’s “Deep State in Action” issue for August 20, 2018. Other chapters appeared as far back as 2015 and as recently as 2020. Because of when they were written, certain portions of the original text have been amended to bring them up to date.
This publishing history helps underscore the fact that this work is no mere collection of essays. A book in the full sense of the word, it tells the story that needs to be told, logically and seamlessly, without the usual gaps or redundancies often found in anthologies.
Though this book contains new information not found in other books that have exposed the Deep State (though not necessarily by using that name), it also incorporates key information originally appearing in earlier books. The pioneering study in this regard is Dan Smoot’s 1962 book The Invisible Government, which has just been brought back to print by Western Islands. As a salute to Mr. Smoot’s classic work, the phrase “invisible government,” a reference to what is now often called the “Deep State,” is included in the subtitle of this new book.
