To Have a Purpose is a thought experiment exploring what could happen if Trump Administration values controlled America for five-hundred years.
Jenna was designed and raised in a laboratory to fulfill a purpose rather than pursue a life of her choosing: she is to accompany an interstellar mining mission as biological insurance against the unknown. She owns nothing, not even a last name. Her life is that of a slave, though the word 'slave' no longer exists.
Far from Earth, on a world of impossible beauty, Jenna encounters mysteries that cannot be explained by the society that created her. Accompanied only by an aidroid whose friendship may be genuine, or merely another form of control, she begins to question assumptions she once accepted without hesitation.
What follows is not a rebellion, but a search: for meaning, truth, and the possibility that a lab-grown human can be more than an assigned role. To Have a Purpose is an dystopian, psychological novel that examines dignity, freedom, duty, and the consequences of living in a civilization where purpose is given but personhood is not.

Intentionally raised to be paranoid, Jenna must survive not only the strict surveillance state that America has become, but also the equally broken Captain Fred and the strange anomalies encountered on a lush green alien world that is nothing like the decaying Earth.
