Synopsis
1407, Castell’Arquato, Lordship of Piacenza.
Alberto Scotti is a young captain of twenty. His destiny is a military life in the shadow of his brother Pietro, heir to the House of Rocca di Castell’Arquato. Everything has already been prearranged by the Regent, the widow of Duke Visconti, who relies on the Scotti alliance to continue dominating the Lordship of Piacenza.
Alberto's private life has also been decided: Bianca Fieschi, daughter of wealthy Genoese merchants, is the woman Count Francesco II Scotti has destined to be his wife. Yet, she is not like the other Piacentine ladies. Behind the blue veils that conceal her face lies a passionate and proud chatelaine, who manages to capture his heart even before the promise of marriage.
Only the shadow of family feuds darkens the prospects of a happy life, suddenly shattered by the siege of Castell’Arquato by the Arcelli. War and imprisonment will force Alberto Scotti to face the longest gamble on his destiny: to become Count of Castell’Arquato and Sàrmato.
