As I sit here in 2024, reading about a young girl from the 1800s who longed for God's Word, I am reminded of Job 23:12, "I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food." This young girl exemplified this sentiment, even before owning a Bible, and continued to do so after obtaining one. How many copies of the Scriptures do you possess? Do you treasure the Word in your heart so that you might not sin against God? I pray this book will ignite a hunger in you for the Word of God.
In 2024, we can acquire an English copy of the Bible for just a few dollars. The Word is more accessible now, but we should not read this book and think, "I'm glad the problem of the Bible not being available is no longer an issue." No, no...it might not be an issue in English, but it is in so many other languages. We need more people like Thomas Charles to rise up and spearhead endeavors to take God's Word forward.
You and I might take for granted that we have a Bible in our own language, but there are still countless souls who have no access to the Bread of Life. What will we do? What will you do?
