“A river that forgets its source will dry off” is an African proverb that transcends territories, cultures and civilizations. It is used to describe what will likely become of a person that neglects his or her origin. The phrase, “dry off” in this case does not necessarily imply that the unbothered fellow will suffer death or incapacitation. Rather, it simply tells the tale of a favored dog that feeds on amongst the wolves while its own pack suffers exterminating hunger. The day such dog is reminded of its original dog status and when the not-one-of-us card is eventually played in the wolf community, the dog may no longer have a surviving pack to fall back to by that time. Indeed, a song rightly choruses, “No matter where you go…remember the road that will lead you home…” It is no brainer that this happens. Aristotle, the classical Greek philosopher submitted that Man is naturally gregarious.
