The Thoracic Surgery Residents Association (TSRA) was established in 1997 under the guidance of the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association (TSDA) to create a unified voice to represent residents during cardiothoracic surgery training. The organization has developed as a core mission a focus on improving the quality, accessibility, and utility of resident education.
The Operative Dictations 2nd edition publication seeks to provide an updated resource that may be used in the surgeon and trainee's daily practice as a resource for review of the major steps of an operation and assist the appropriate documentation of the conduct of that operation. While the list of operations has been substantially expanded it is by no means intended to be inclusive of the entire breadth of the field of cardiothoracic surgery and purposefully maintains the style of the original authors as a safe approach. This text is a representation of the collective efforts and expertise of current trainees, recent graduates, and attending experts in the field of cardiothoracic surgery.
We have nearly doubled the content, with the addition of pictures, videos, and a new critical care section totaling 176 chapters. There are 52 chapters in General Thoracic Surgery, 77 chapters in Adult Cardiac Surgery, 39 chapters in Congenital Heart Surgery, and 8 chapters in Critical Care. This text is not a surrogate for formal training but it is our hope that you enjoy the utilities of this text as we the TSRA have enjoyed making it.
