Synopsis

This novel delves into the subjective experiences of the protagonist regarding the behavior of judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and correctional personnel during the backdrop of a pandemic. It seeks to explore and illuminate the interactions, challenges, and dynamics within the criminal justice system, providing a nuanced perspective on how these individuals navigate their roles and responsibilities during extraordinary times. The novel prominently focuses on the issue of bail, which the protagonist becomes fixated on to an obsessive degree. Despite the implementation of a new bail law that emphasizes leniency when granting bail by judges, the entrenched mindset of those presiding over the court remains unchanged. As a result, all of the protagonist's diligent efforts ultimately prove fruitless. He ends up serving the entirety of his misdemeanor one-year sentence in jail before finally being granted bail. How ridiculous! He was supposed to be released without a bail.
In addition to its focus on the debacle of bail, this novel meticulously paints a detailed and captivating picture of everyday life in jail. It delves into various aspects such as the intricacies of jail food, the provision of healthcare, the dynamics of recreation, the presence of conflicts, and the behavior of the jail staff. By exploring these facets, the novel offers readers a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted and often challenging realities associated with life behind bars. Through vivid descriptions and insightful narratives, it seeks to shed light on the complexities and nuances of the inmate experience, providing a compelling and immersive portrayal of the microcosm that exists within the walls of a correctional facility.
