Alan Parry-Booth was born in Blackwood, Wales in 1931.His first poem “St. David” won him a prize of five shillings (In Savings Stamps) when he was only eight years old.The Booth family connection with the Welsh Guards goes back to the formation of the regiment in 1915 and both Alan and his brother John, were both very proud to have done their National Service wearing the leek.In 1951, Guardsman Parry-Booth was appointed “Welsh Guards Bard” and, about sixty years later, he had the honour “Poet Laureate”, bestowed upon him by Welsh Guards Re-united.Despite his age, Alan is still entertaining his Welsh Guards friends, via the net, on a daily basis and thoroughly enjoying the banter for which the regiment has become famous.
