Synopsis

The howl within comes not from broken bones, or bruiséd skin; it comes from being torn in two, in the losing of you.
Jessica’s poems were written as a direct response to the sudden death of her husband four weeks before she was ordained priest in the Church of England, and many reflect her faith. These honest poems chart her journey from the first unbelieving days, through anger, pain, withdrawal, survival and eventual acceptance, and even joy. These poems express many aspects of day to day grief which will resonate with those who have lost a loved one.
This beautifully illustrated book also contains some of Jessica’s paintings which were made in response to her own grief, which others find are universal in their portrayal of some of their own deepest feelings, and helps them to know that they are not alone. The illustrations in this version are in black and white. A version with coloured illustrations is also available.
The complete book forms an autobiographical story, and can be read as such, or as book where you can find the poem which expresses the stage you have reached in your own grieving.
Many of these poems are already being used by those helping others in their grief and shared with those who are grieving.
This is a book to give to those who are grieving the loss a much-loved person, and also for those who are walking beside them. It shows those who are grieving that they are not alone, and that there is hope for love, life, and laughter once again.
