Synopsis

If you were one of the 0.05% of people left on Earth after the disappearance of all the children and two plagues that killed the majority of the planet's population, what would you do? If you were listening on your shortwave radio and discovered that others like you were heading to Key West, Florida, where fishing was abundant and there was a chance to live cooperatively with others, would you go? Your parents and friends are dead, corpses litter the streets, and, after two years of struggling, food is becoming scarce. What if your Border Collie companions suddenly became much smarter than they ever were and actively helped you survive? But it's getting harder to keep everyone fed, and you're bone-tired of trying. You suspect an alien race has been part of what's happening, but there's no way to know for sure. What would you do?
The survivors of Earths plagues have fled to a distant planet with the help of an alien, and they are trying to survive on their new world. They're a odd group and their dogs are even odder. A CIA pilot, a DOD engineer, a Key West computer specialist, the last living Pope and many others are working together to create a new colony on the planet. But there is danger from the sea, the sky and even the plants and they must carefully navagate their way in order to survive. And a group of colonists want to become a ruling class, creating anger and division among the survivors.
