Synopsis

Forget everything you think you know about modern air combat.

Code Name Blue Tang takes readers into the highly technical and secretive world of fighter aviation, air superiority, missile technology, aerial combat and military intelligence—and challenges some widely accepted assumptions about Western air power.

The book examines Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missile warfare, the evolution of fighter-aircraft technology, the Energy-Maneuverability Theory developed by John Boyd and Thomas Christie, and the development of aircraft such as the F-16, F-18 and South African JAS 39 Gripen.

It also investigates South African advances in air-to-air weapons, airborne early warning and fighter tactics, including the Denel Dynamics V3E Agile Darter short-range air-to-air missile.

At the center of the story is Angelique Dawson, South African spymaster and intelligence operative, whose supposedly peaceful flying holiday with her bodyguard and future husband, former Special Forces commander Major Geoffrey Foxtrot, quickly turns into something far more dangerous.

After an apparent aircraft malfunction forces Angelique into an emergency landing, assassination becomes a distinct possibility.

Then she arranges an extraordinary aerial experiment: a simulated dogfight involving Spanish F-18 Hornets and South African Gripens, designed to test the capabilities of the Agile Darter.

But Angelique is not the only person interested in the results.

Mossad is watching. MI6 is watching. And someone wants Angelique dead.

The book also reaches back into the history of the South African Air Force Mirage F1 operations in Angola and examines the lessons that emerged from decades of aerial warfare and weapons testing.

At its core, Code Name Blue Tang delivers one warning:

Never underestimate an opponent simply because you believe you know what he can do.

Code Name Blue Tang is Book 15 of the popular GMJ Series, combining military aviation, fighter jets, air combat, intelligence operations, espionage, Special Forces and geopolitical intrigue.

The dogfight is only the beginning.
